Mexico’s drug trafficking world has been shocked by the reported death of one of its most feared leaders: Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, better known as ‘El Mencho’.
“El Mencho” is one of the most wanted criminals in both Mexico and the United States. The DEA has offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his capture and the FGR also has a warrant for his arrest. According to authorities, “El Mencho” is responsible for bringing tons of drugs to the United States, mainly methamphetamines, and he is also accused of being responsible for the violence in different Mexican states such as Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán.
El Mencho’ had been struggling with kidney failure, which had deteriorated his health in recent months, forcing him to undergo constant dialysis. The possible death of this criminal leader has given hope to many people who have been affected by the CJNG, but it has also put authorities on alert due to his importance in the drug trafficking world. It would be a major blow to the cartel, but it could also trigger an internal crisis within the organization.
The corrido that sparked the rumors
The rumor is due to a song published on YouTube by the Doble RR Récords channel last Friday. The narcocorrido, titled “Ya se fue”, was composed by Jesús Manuel Rodríguez Rodríguez and is performed by the Guerrero singer Ricardo Lobo. The narcocorrido mentions that ‘El Mencho’ has died the way he always wanted: quietly, without making noise and always keeping in the shadows.
However, it is important to mention that so far there is no official confirmation from the authorities about the death of “El Mencho”. It should also be noted that in the past there have been several false rumors about his death.
What is certain is that the CJNG is one of the main actors in drug trafficking and its possible fall, either with the death of its leader or his capture, would be a serious blow to this criminal organization that has managed to expand exponentially in recent years.
