On Sunday afternoon, the FBI announced that it is investigating an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, who was at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when a man armed with an AK-style rifle aimed at the golf course, prompting the Secret Service to open fire.

“The FBI is investigating what appears to be an assassination attempt on the former president,” the agency said in an official statement. However, Trump emerged completely unharmed.

Additionally, it was revealed that after the security team’s response, the armed man abandoned the weapon and fled in an SUV. Authorities, however, managed to arrest him later in a neighboring county.

Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign communications director, confirmed that “President Trump is safe following gunfire in his proximity.” Authorities recovered an AK-47-style rifle at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

It was also confirmed that the investigation is being led by the FBI and the Secret Service, in collaboration with local authorities, who will provide more details in the coming hours.

In response, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris expressed relief upon learning that Trump was safe.

“I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Harris posted on the social media platform X.

It is worth noting that this is the second assassination attempt on Trump in two months. In July, a bullet grazed his ear during a rally in Pennsylvania, an incident that left one person dead and two others injured.
