Grupo Frontera, one of Latin America’s hottest acts, have unexpectedly canceled their scheduled performance in Bogota, Colombia due to low ticket sales. The announcement was made by Alive Productions on July 21st, citing a lack of profits as the primary reason for the show’s cancelation.
The company stated that Grupo Frontera would have taken 80% of the profits, while Alive Production would have taken the remaining 20%, which would have resulted in minimal profits for the performers. Despite the cancellation, the company stated that refunds for tickets purchased can be requested starting July 31st.
Compounding this problem was the higher-than-usual ticket prices. Box prices for the Grupo Frontera show ranged from 4.8 million to nearly 7.5 million Colombian pesos, significantly higher than the average prices for concerts in the country. These high prices apparently priced out many fans, making the demand for tickets too low to make the show viable.
Despite the setback in Bogota, Grupo Frontera is still gaining success, ranking on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group has four of its songs on the chart, including “Unx100to” with Bad Bunny and “Bebe Dame” with Fuerza Regida.
The remaining tour dates in Central and South America will continue as planned. However, Garzia Live, the organizer of the South American tour, released a statement denying any financial issues as the cause of the canceled show, instead citing a “repeated breach of contract by Alive Productions and City Records”.
Grupo Frontera’s fans in Colombia may be disappointed by the news, but their successes elsewhere indicate a bright future for the group. As they continue to conquer Latin American charts, Grupo Frontera may eventually succeed in returning to Bogota and playing to a full house.
