Hundreds of miles away from home, 21-year-old Laury Yisel Guzmán Becerra was found lifeless in an apartment in Bucaramanga, Colombia on Tuesday. After being reported missing on Sunday, her body was discovered without any visible injuries or signs of violence, raising questions on the cause of her mysterious demise and sending shockwaves throughout the local community.

Relatives of the victim are now urging the authorities to thoroughly investigate what happened to Laury Yisel and bring those responsible to justice. “We say that it is important that the authorities get to the bottom of the investigation, we know that Legal Medicine has the body, but we as a family ask that everything that has to be investigated be investigated and if the man (the boyfriend) has something to do with her death then take responsibility,” said an anonymous relative of the victim.

The victim has no injuries or wounds on his body, however progress is being made in the investigation, analysis of security cameras and collection of testimony from possible witnesses to determine the causes of death.”

The tragic death of Laury Yisel has once again put the spotlight on the growing violence and human rights abuses in Colombia, and has prompted renewed calls for justice and accountability from the local community.
