CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA — What began as a leisurely day on the water in one of Colombia’s most popular tourist destinations ended in tragedy earlier this week. A 26-year-old Italian tourist, Nicholas Cudini, was found dead after a jet ski accident off the coast of Cholon beach, a hotspot known for its vibrant boat parties and crystal-clear waters.
The Colombian Navy, after an intensive search, managed to recover Cudini’s body late on Tuesday night, almost 24 hours after the tragic accident. Cudini, who had been visiting Cartagena with a friend, rented a jet ski to explore the beach, but lost control of the vehicle. Authorities believe the jet ski collided with one of the numerous boats anchored in the area, causing the young man to fall into the water. While Cudini’s friend, who was with him, was able to escape the collision, the Italian tourist was tragically dragged underwater and did not surface.

The incident has cast a shadow over the otherwise festive atmosphere of Cartagena, a city renowned for its colonial charm, vibrant nightlife, and beautiful beaches. Authorities have urged both locals and visitors to take safety precautions seriously as they enjoy the ongoing holiday season and its related festivities. The Navy has issued reminders about the importance of wearing life jackets, following safety guidelines, and exercising caution when engaging in water sports.
