An Amtrak train carrying nearly 200 passengers derailed Wednesday morning in Moorpark, California, after colliding with a County Water truck, leaving at least one person seriously injured. The three derailed cars of the seven-car train came to a stop in an orchard and along sections of land without vegetation.

Fourteen of the passengers were taken to hospitals as a result of the accident, bearing minor injuries. Of greater concern, however, is the driver of the Ventura County Public Works truck, who is believed to have been ejected from their vehicle during the crash and is now in critical condition with severe head trauma.

The crash left parts of the truck scattered around the accident site, and the circumstances leading up to the collision are still unknown. However, many of the passengers managed to evacuate the train themselves or with the help of lifeguards on the scene.

The sudden derailment caused disruptions and delays on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner route as the investigation into the crash gets underway. Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported at this time.
