While Oscar de la Hoya has been fairly prominent for the main event related news, one thing that is awkwardly apparent is the lack of Golden Boy fighters in general for this event. After all, this fight is primarily a PBC event brokered so that Canelo could provide Amazon the best possible fight.
Who is Mario Barrios?
Even in defeats, Mario Barrios is always able to showcase a fan friendly approach to fights. For instance, against Keith Thurman, Barrios had his moments in his welterweight debut. During the eighth, Barrios landed a left hook to the body which caused Thurman to back up. The 26-year-old is more of a brawler, but against Ugas he added a stiff power jab.
As of late, Barrios wants to be the first welterweight from San Antonio, Texas, all while showing the grit and power to hang in those divisions.
Mario’s bout with Fabian Maidana may possibly setup better punches against the fairly inactive Fabian Maidana. Unfortunately, this also seems to be the consensus amongst the experience Robert Garcia camp:
As he’s grown into the Welterweight division, one can observe that his strength is really much more on par with other elite fighters. As an aside, his loss to Tank Davis begins to have much more of an asterisk due to the intense amount of weight cutting involved for that high money fight.
Nonetheless, here is Barrio’s jab setting much of his offense and decisively shutting Ugas out of their match. His strength, timing and punch resistance is much higher these days all thanks to not having skin down to the bone.
Who is Fabian Maidana?
Fabian Maidana is the estranged brother of former welterweight champion, Marcos Maidana.
As of late, Maidana has been fairly inactive which leads many to questions his commitment to the sport. This is a dangerous place for him to be in a dangerous sport.
