Colombia’s Insecurity Has Tourism Board Worried About Inflow & President Comments

The country’s insecurity continues to be a topic of conversation, this time it was President Petro who referred to the situation, which he sees as a fundamental factor preventing the growth of tourism.

“The issue is that Colombia not known for its beauty, but for other things, which is our own violence. Undoubtedly, as everyone here knows, violence is a total deterrent to tourism. No one visits where bombs sound or where people are killed”, the head of state stated during his comments at the Anato 2024 showcase.

The country has mobilized some degree of forces and sent out messages via heavy sentencing. After the United States issues alert for its citizens due to “crime threat throughout Colombia” These statements by the President coincide with the warnings issued by the United States Embassy to its citizens visiting Colombia to act with caution.

Suspicious Deaths – 4 Americans In Week In Medellin

Giving a new meaning to ‘Noche en Medellin’, 4 American or foreigners in the city have been found dead in the month of February. In fact, two of them were similar whereby two women could be seen leaving their hotel rooms in a pair and their body shortly thereafter found lifeless in their hotel room. Such was the case in Marcel Petreanu and Anthony G Lopez, citizens from the Netherlands and USA, respectively.

While various anti-criminal operation has taken place in Medellin, these may not be enough to discourage an emboldened criminal class.
