The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip has reached a new level of violence, with yet another deadly attack by Israeli forces on a densely populated Palestinian neighborhood.
Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza has left at least 50 people dead, according to local sources. The attack, claimed by Israel, was targeting a senior commander of the militant group Hamas, but has sparked widespread outrage and accusations of a massacre, as the death toll continues to rise and civilian casualties mount.
This comes just a day after a previous attack on the same camp left at least 145 people dead.
The assault on the refugee camp also comes at a time when the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of an “imminent public health catastrophe” in Gaza. At least 8,525 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began, and more than 20,000 have been injured and displaced. The situation has been exacerbated by the recent increase in violence and the blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Despite several efforts at brokering a ceasefire by international entities, the conflict shows no signs of abating. The continued use of force by Israel and retaliatory rocket attacks by Hamas have led to a cycle of violence that has claimed too many innocent lives.
As the death toll continues to rise and the humanitarian crisis worsens, it is imperative that the international community takes a stronger stance in finding a resolution to this deadly conflict. Innocent lives, on both sides, are being lost every day and it is time for the international community to act.
