After a manhunt involving hundreds of Pennsylvania law enforcement personnel and the FBI, Danelo Cavalcante has been apprehended after eluding capture for two weeks.

The 34-year-old Brazilian had been convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in 2021 and was serving a life sentence in the US. His escape went unnoticed for more than an hour, until prison guards noticed during a routine head count.

Cavalcante managed to evade capture despite numerous roadblocks and police officers, although an airplane detected his heat signature in the early hours of the morning. A tactical team surprised Cavalcante before he could make a run for it in the morning. Danelo received minor injury after being bitten by a police dog, but no injuries were reported among the other personnel.

Although Cavalcante had acquired a rifle stolen from a garage, it is unknown whether he harmed anyone during his time evading capture. However, the ordeal caused many sleepless nights for residents of southeastern Pennsylvania who had thought the fugitive may be lurking nearby.

Local residents now have the relief of knowing that Cavalcante is off the streets and unable to cause any further harm. Investigation into how he escaped prison continues.
