Russia Accused of Civilian Casualties as U.S. Announces Arms Supply Plan to Ukraine

Russia has been accused of causing civilian casualties after a bombing in a residential building in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Thursday left 10 people dead and 42 injured.

In response to the attack, the United States announced plans on Thursday to supply Ukraine with cluster bombs, a type of ammunition that is banned in more than 100 countries including Ukraine’s allies, such as Germany.

The European Union also agreed to a plan to allocate 500 million euros to increase its production of artillery shells to replenish its arsenals and send supplies to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski stated that he was pleased with the announcement of the US arms supply plan to Ukraine, calling it an “extraordinary psychological impact” against the enemy. Zelenski is set to travel to Turkey this Friday to discuss with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the agreement to export grain through the Black Sea. He has also recently visited the Czech Republic and Slovakia, seeking the support of his leaders.

The civilian casualties caused by the Russian bombing ofLviv have brought sharp criticism of the Kremlin and its seeking to gain control of the region. Russia has denied the accusations, saying they are “groundless” and “false.”

Ukraine’s government has called for an immediate investigation into the bombing, and urged its allies to show “strong, immediate and unified solidarity in the face of the Russian aggression”. Several countries have denounced the attack and promised to send aid to the country.

Meanwhile, world leaders are urging Russia to stop its campaign in Ukraine and de-escalate the tension in the region. The US and EU have both issued warnings to Russia for its actions and called for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict.
