In a joint operation between Colombian and US authorities, 42-year-old US citizen Stefan Andrés Correa was arrested in Medellín, Colombia, for crimes of child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation. The arrest took place on April 19 thanks to exhaustive investigative work involving local authorities and US law enforcement agents. According to reports, the criminal had been operating in the Medellín region, with 45 entries into the country recorded. These, according to Correa’s confession, he used to commit abuses against minors.
The news has shocked the local community and underscored the importance of international cooperation in the fight against child sexual exploitation. Authorities have ensured that the detainee will be extradited to the United States to face justice in that country, where severe sanctions are expected to be imposed for his crimes. Regarding the case, Mayor Federico Gutiérrez declared in a press conference that Correa possibly faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison.
Similarly, on April 26, the mayor confirmed the arrest of another individual. A 51-year-old man, whose identity is unknown, was found with a 15-year-old girl in an apartment in the Aranjuez area. It is known that his arrest warrant was achieved thanks to a citizen’s call to the emergency line. This citizen participation and awareness has proven in this and previous cases to be a key element for the capture of criminals.
