Monterrey-based breakout artists, Los Esquivel, composed of brothers Sebastian and Eugenio Esquivel, have achieved a significant milestone in their careers. In just one week into the new year, their latest single “ALUCIN” has entered Spotify’s Top 100 Global chart, while also staying within Mexico’s Top 10 in several platforms.
The emergence of Mexican Regional music in the past 18 months amongst a broader audience is becoming more and more evident. The genre was once somewhat contained within the Americas, now is explosively claiming territory and represents the new desire for grit and modernity in music that young people crave.
In the case of Los Esquivel, they are making waves outside of the US first, in places like Europe, where they have trended in Spanish social media for several weeks.
Onset of Social Media Presence – Trokita Tumbada
Just a few years ago, the pair of brothers were on a broad range of social media outlets obtaining organic reach. While their success right now is fairly recent, this Billboard and Spotify charting success has been a long time coming for these young Mexicans who have been leveraging their social media presence to push their brand and music.
Before its official release, “ALUCIN” was previewed on TikTok by Los Esquivel, generating excitement among their growing (and young) fanbase. Since its release, the song has quickly become their biggest hit to date. It is currently dominating streaming platforms, finding placements in Spotify’s prestigious Top 100 global chart and viral charts in over 12 countries.
Additionally, “ALUCIN” has maintained its position in the Top 10 of both Apple Music and Spotify in Mexico, further solidifying its popularity. The track has also found success on the Billboard charts, ranking within the Top 20 Mexico Songs. At the time of this writing, “ALUCIN” has surpassed 60 million streams across various digital platforms per WK Records’ press release.
The Future
The duo’s rise to fame exemplifies their ability to redefine regional Mexican music with “ALUCIN”, a testament to their undeniable talent. Los Esquivel have firmly established themselves as key players among the new wave of Gen Z artists in 2024. Billboard says they’re a group to keep your eye on this year. We can’t help but agree.
