On April 29th Odesa’s iconic “Harry Potter Castle,” a beloved landmark that had enchanted visitors with its magical charm, has been reduced to rubble in a deadly missile strike by Russian forces. The missile strike, reportedly carried out by Russian forces, resulted in the destruction of the castle and claimed 5 lives in the surrounding area and left 23 injured. Among the casualties were civilians who had sought refuge in the vicinity, hoping to escape war.
The castle, officially known as the Odesa Film Studios, gained its nickname due to its striking resemblance to the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the Harry Potter series. Situated on the outskirts of Odesa, the enchanting structure had become a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the world who marveled at its whimsical architecture and storied history. However, the castle’s fate took a tragic turn when it became a target in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the deafening roar of explosions as missiles rained down on the castle, unleashing a wave of destruction that shattered windows, tore apart buildings, and sent plumes of smoke billowing into the sky.
News of the attack sent shockwaves through the international community, eliciting widespread condemnation and calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities. Images and videos circulating on social media showed the once-majestic castle engulfed in flames, its spires crumbling amidst the chaos of war. The incident underscores the grim toll that the war has taken on Ukraine’s cultural heritage and civilian population. Throughout the conflict, numerous historical sites and civilian infrastructure have been targeted, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis gripping the region.
