Uber, the global mobility platform based in San Francisco, unveiled its plans for 2023 at a recent event in New York. Among the news was a Family Profile, designed to make it easier and safer for teenagers and elderly family members to use the service.
The new Teen Travel Program, set to launch next week in 14 cities, lets 13- to 17-year-olds manage their own Uber accounts after their parents add them to a family profile. To ensure the safety of young users, parents can follow their kids’ trips in real time and contact the drivers directly. The journeys will also have additional security measures, such as a PIN verification system and an audio recording option.
For elderly family members, Uber is introducing a telephone line to book trips in English or Spanish. This will make it easier for users who are not as comfortable using a smartphone.
In addition, Uber is also launching an all-inclusive mobility service, including boat reservations, on the Greek island of Mykonos. The company plans to expand this service to other destinations in the future.
Uber also unveiled other features to make family life easier in 2023, such as more options to share journeys, purchases, and expenses. The company is also launching a vacation program, offering customers the ability to book trips to Mykonos, as well as other destinations.
Uber is taking extra steps to ensure the safety of its users. All drivers must pass a background check that includes a “comprehensive” criminal record report. The company also requires drivers to pass a background check every year and receives alerts for updates to their records.
Uber has been testing the Teen Travel Program in the US and Canada for more than a year. The company hopes that the new features will help make family life easier and safer.
