Ricardo Lezama (8/18/2017) ---- What the fuck is Breitbart? Ignore the weird ass name. The right-wing white supremacist website has the sole function of promoting Steve Bannon's personal beliefs about the world in a way that complements the business model of Robert Mercer. The basic modus operandi is to dress up racist views as ones justified by economic nationalism and make quasi-legalistic references to marginalize Mexicans and people of color, while ignoring the bloody colonial history of the United States.

Update: Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, author of SB-170, also works for Breitbart News since June 2017. Kobach heads the phony Voter Fraud Commission enacted by Donald Trump to account for 3 million people more voting (probably with reservations) for Hillary Clinton during the 2016 US presidential election.

Bannon served in an official capacity as an adviser to Donald Trump's administration before being fired today likely due to giving an interview to the American Progressive, unintentionally. In the interview, Bannon revealed that the US had no military option in Korea, insulted Breitbart's fan base, and distorted the events of Charlottesville as something trumped up by the media and Democrats.

In their discourse, Bannon and people aligned with his views (Julian Assange, for example, has adopted some of the same rhetoric to inject it into the left) have conflated 'identity' politics (whatever the Democrats say about race) with anti-colonial activism, education and Xicano politics. This is not an accident. Instead, Bannon wishes to smear legitimate political opposition with known corrupt variables of 'American' institutions. Do not fall into the trap in your discourse. Everything is reduced to simple 'us vs them' politics. Clinton is evil and everyone who is not us is on her side.

Bannon also financed Seinfield. He made much of his money from that savvy media investment in the early 1990's. He is divorced. His former wife says that the there is a psychological issue, a sort of conversion to radical right wing views and that, ironically given his money source, Bannon became extremely anti-semitic towards the end of their marriage. He was physically abusive towards her.

Robert Mercer bankrolls Breitbart. He is the head of Renaissance Investments, a computational linguist, whose firm operates a succesful hedge fund that owes its success to exploiting natural language processing to make their algorithms for trading 'smarter' in so far as they can detect trends in news.

The daughter of Robert Mercer, Rebecca Mercer, sustains Milo Yannopolis, the openly gay (and advocate of pedophilia) right-wing provocateur tasked with appealing to young people for Breitbart News. Yannopolis used to be an official Breitbart's editor (doubtful that title actually means anything there, though) but was let go due to advocating the age of consent be lowered for male to male relationships. Its also highly likely he did it for attention to promote a book, which was never published due to his pedophilia comments.

Operating a large website is expensive. There are no exact figures because Breitbart is privately held. However, staff and Bannon himself admit that the Mercer family are crucial to their operation. It is also possible that they are in slight competition with FOX News for identical market share. It is unclear what their relationship is on a market level.

Robert Mercer is using Cambridge Analytica to intervene in Mexico's upcoming presidential election. The La Cartita article is being distributed in Mexico to prevent this strategy of installing a Trump friendly government from working.

The website 'Breitbart' does not have enough personnel to produce content on a daily basis (for now). Whenever a topic can not be addressed by a media outlet, a standard practice is to buy content from wire service providers who are simply interested in providing up to the minute news, but have less of an interest to serve the content. For instance, the Associated Press (AP) sells its content to the New York Times (NYT) or Bloomberg News because it specializes in generating the content first.

The website, Breitbart, then, has adopted the strategy to fill up its pages with legitimate news from excellent outlets like Agence France Press (AFP) or the Associated Press (AP). It costs several thousand dollars a month to fill up a space like Breitbart with news from different wires, but the purpose of purchasing AFP/AP wire content is to comingle subpar posts with legitimate news to make Breitbart content look better, more believable and, perhaps, to influence those outlets as well. AFP's sales team, unfortunately, is willing to sell to anyone, but that is there decision to make.

Several months ago one border crossing related arrest at the US Mexico border was announced simultaneously on Breitbart and other affiliated (ideologically) sites. However, what was curious was that the announcement of the arrest was made on Breitbart before even the official government websites, which typically are the source for news stories on such announcements. La Cartita covered the topic at the time and present an analysis of the oddity surrounding this border arrest involving 30 kilos of marijuana transported on a hearse:

On May 1, 2017: Breitbart, Daily Caller & Homeland Security release content pertaining to the arrest. However, DHS (Department of Homeland Security) announces the border arrest slightly after Breitbart and Daily Caller. Whether the articles were picked up directly via FOX by Breitbart or via DHS as an email blast to news organizations that are privy to unpublicized information is unclear. It should be noted that Breitbart has a former Federal informant as an editor.

Brietbart employs Brandon Darby. Darby is a known FBI informant who incriminated Seattle activists on terror charges. He distorts news about the Drug War for 'Breitbart Texas'.

The announcements are unremarkable in and of themselves since Breitbart publishes at least one border related arrest per day. What that means is that a substantial of their operation is dedicated to smearing Mexican people (who are natives to the southwest) and Central American immigrants. They have managed to create a narrative where somehow these border crossings are connected to Saudi Arabian terrorism and economic destitution. Nothing can be further from the truth, but that is a commonly held belief amongst those readers.
