The incredible story of Richard Montañez and the creation of one of the world’s most beloved snack flavors is set to be released on Disney Plus this June. Directed by Eva Longoria in her feature-film debut, Flamin’ Hot recounts the inspiring journey of a Mexican American migrant worker who rose from poverty and a janitorial job at Frito-Lay to become the creator of a beloved snack.
Richard Montañez’s story is one of resilience, hard work, and ambition. The son of immigrant workers, Montañez grew up in a migrant worker camp in California and dropped out of school, instead taking up a job as a janitor at Frito-Lay at the age of 18. It was here that Montañez had his big break, when he noticed a problem with one of the Cheetos machines and decided to take home a selection of the tasteless snacks and experiment with a variety of spices. The result was the now world-famous Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Eva Longoria’s debut as a director is an inspirational and uplifting look at the power of hard work and determination to overcome any obstacle, and to achieve success against all odds. The premiere will bee on the streaming platform Disney + on June 9. The cast of the film includes Jesse Garcia, Annie Gonzalez, Tony Shalhoub, Dennis Haysbert, Matt Walsh, Emilio Rivera, Pepe Serna, and Jimmy Gonzales.
