JOP is released after being arrested over Marijuana possession in Mexicali

Fuerza Regida’s crew and singer, Jesus Ortiz Paz, were released on Tuesday after being detained in Mexicali over the weekend. The issue was JOP’s attempt to cross into Mexico with Marijuana and related paraphernalia.

According to ‘La Voz De La Frontera’, local authorities permitted Edgar Eduardo Diaz, Angel Eduardo Gutierrez Lara and Jose Francisco Lopez Trasvina, to leave the Mexicali facilities after it was determined that the amount possessed was below 10 grams, which is federally permitted.

Mexico has a somewhat confusing decriminalization scheme when it comes to Marijuana, but the issue here is likely the fact that the drugs were introduced from a different territory. Nevertheless, Mexico has decriminalized small amounts of marijuana for personal use, but authorities have discretion on when they can arrest or book someone for even having drugs.

When asked about whether authorities had been heavy handed, JOP mentioned that they had been polite and managed the situation well despite the misunderstanding.
