Residents of Delray Beach, a normally quiet and peaceful beach town in South Florida, were shocked when the dismembered body of an 80-year-old woman was found in several suitcases along the Intracoastal Waterway. The remains, identified as Aydil Barbosa Fontes, were placed inside suitcases tied to landscaping rocks and with a LATAM Airlines barcode label.
78-year-old William Lowe was arrested and charged with the first-degree murder of his wife, 80-year-old Aydil Barbosa Fontes on July 31st. Inside the couple’s apartment, police noticed large amounts of blood in the bathtub and shower drain, tools that could have been used for dismemberment, and marks on the walls.

Authorities were able to trace the gruesome discovery back to the night of July 21 when witnesses reported seeing a man, fitting Lowe’s description, near the suitcases. The police found a total of 3 suitcases containing human remains.
Forensic tests indicated that Fontes’ death was caused by a gunshot wound to the head and her identity was established after a forensic examination of her teeth. Lowe pleaded not guilty in court and is currently being held without bail.
The unimaginable tragedy has left many in the Delray Beach community stunned and expects justice to be done.
