PHILADELPHIA, Friday night, January 26, was suddenly rocked by a tragic incident at a store in North Philadelphia. Two Philadelphia Police Department officers entered the store on a routine stop, but what appeared to be a normal situation quickly turned into a chaotic and deadly scene.
As the officers searched the store for a group of men who were playing slot machines, a fight broke out with one of the suspects, identified as Alexander Spencer. In the midst of the altercation, Spencer’s gun discharged and one of the officers was wounded in the leg.
The wounded officer’s partner returned fire and fatally shot Spencer. However another man who was with Spencer identified as Jose Quiñones-Mendez, picked up the fallen weapon and fled the scene.
The wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital where he is in stable condition. Meanwhile, the officer who shot and killed Spencer has been placed on administrative leave, following department protocol.
Police are currently searching for Quiñones-Méndez and anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact 911.
