Colombian singer Karol G has once again found herself embroiled in controversy, after being accused of plagiarizing Russian artist Mila Voyna in her latest single ‘Contigo’. The accusation came to light when Voyna posted a video on Instagram in which she compared her song ‘Pégate’ to Karol G and dj Tiësto’s song, pointing out striking similarities in rhythm and melody.
In the video, Voyna expressed her disappointment towards Karol G, stating that it was disappointing to see an artist with great reach and winner of so many awards and accolades, copy someone else’s work without giving credit. She also noted that while there may be similarities in the sound libraries, the transition and changes in “Contigo” were too similar to her own song to be a mere coincidence.
This incident has generated a great controversy in social networks, where followers of both artists have expressed their opinion, and where an intense debate has been unleashed on the subject. Although there is still no response from Karol G, many are wondering if she really incurred in an act of plagiarism or if it is simply a coincidence.
