Beloved local boxer, Izaac Colunga, was shot and paralyzed after a drive-by shooting in Riverside County, California. Colunga also worked as a driver for special education children. Thankfully, Colunga is alive, but remains paralyzed and needs intense care after the incident. He can speak normally, but his mobility is severely restricted from the neck down.

Riverside Walk By Shooting
Unfortunately, Colunga was present in a house when three African American (possibly 4) individuals walked up to his house and asked if there was a party in the home. Afterwards, they opened fire and one bullet struck Colunga in the neck, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Details can be found on Ellie Seckback’s Youtube Channel.
Colunga, who has long been associated with the Garcia boxing family, was a promising young prospect at the time of the shooting. At the time of the shooting, he had a record of 3 wins, 2KO’s and no losses.
Incident & Arrests
The cold case unit of Riverside Police Department opened an investigation and eventually arrested the following individuals: 26-year-old Dereck Anthony Wood of Riverside, 26-year-old Raymond Floyd Cervin of Riverside, and 26-year-old Donte Justice Reese of Las Vegas. They are repeat offenders. Dereck Anthony Wood is charged with multiple murder charges, one gruesome felony case that involves beating an elder and possessing firearms despite prior restrictions per JIMS. All of the suspects are housed in Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Centre.
While three were arrested, there had actually been 4 suspects named as relevant to the case. That fourth individual died of natural causes, according to local media. The RPD’s press release is here.
