After more than 15 years, the popular Mexican group RBD has returned to the stage with a long-awaited tour of Colombia. The band, composed of former members of the soap opera “Rebelde”, thrilled their fans by performing at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in Medellín for four consecutive days.
With an impressive attendance of more than 188,000 people, the group proved that their music continues to have a strong following among old and new audiences alike. But their success goes beyond the stage, as their visit to Colombia also brought significant economic benefits to the capital of Antioquia.
One of the most benefited sectors has been the hotel industry. According to the Colombian Hotel and Tourism Association (Cotelco), occupancy rates of up to 96% were recorded during the first two days of the concerts alone. Even on the following days, the figures remained high, at around 80-71%. This translated into total revenues of 3,096 million pesos for the sector during the four days of the event.
The impact extends beyond the stage and ticketing vein, as many fans from other cities and even countries traveled to Medellín to attend the concerts, boosting sales and occupancy rates in popular tourist areas. There was a 20% increase in sales and close to 100% occupancy in commercial and leisure areas.
The transportation sector also experienced a significant increase; that week of the concerts there was a 15% increase in the flow of passengers to Medellín. This not only benefits bus and air transportation companies, but also local businesses in the vicinity of the venues.
