By Ricardo Lezama According to Radio Formula, the opening of the Gaza-Egypt border has permitted some individuals to leave the conflict zone. Simultaneously, Palestinians have been deported back into Gaza from Israel.
Michelle Rabel, a doctor conducting humanitarian work, was successfully evacuated from the Israel bombardments of Gaza. The bombings have killed dozens of medical workers while Israel has claimed that these workers were actually Hamas agents. Nonetheless, Rabel has arrived in Cairo, Egypt and the hope is she will be repatriated to Mexico soon. Mexico’s diplomatic services have worked tirelessly to extricate Mexicans out of Gaza.
Despite the good news for Mexico that Michelle Rabel has been permitted to return to Mexico others remain behind. Dr. Barbara Lango remains trapped, but not hostage, under these circumstances and there is hope that the corridor will remain open.
