BOGOTA, COLOMBIA – A 76-year-old grandmother known only by the alias ‘La Abuela’, has been revealed as the leader of a criminal organization dedicated to the production and distribution of synthetic drugs in the bustling Colombian capital of Bogota and Chía. The network’s main clients? High school and university students.
The network, which was targeted towards high school and university students, distributed gummies laced with lethal substances such as fentanyl and tusi. According to authorities, these areas were chosen specifically to exploit the vulnerability of the young population and increase their customer base.
The investigation, led by Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office, uncovered that ‘La Abuela’ used her own home as a laboratory to produce and mix dangerous substances, including 2CB, LSD, MDMA, and fentanyl, to increase their potency. But it didn’t stop there. The network also dabbled in traditional drugs like marijuana and cocaine.
The operation, dubbed ‘Olimpo’, was a year-long joint effort by law enforcement agencies in Colombia. The result was the arrest of five members of the gang, including ‘La Abuela’, and the seizure of over 500 pills of various synthetic drugs, along with other evidence. The prosecution has charged all members with drug trafficking, manufacturing and carrying narcotics, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The prosecutor in charge of the case has requested that they all be denied bail, citing their threat to society.
This shocking revelation serves as a reminder that crime knows no boundaries and can often hide in plain sight. With the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking in Colombia, this grandmother’s involvement has left many baffled and serves as a cautionary tale for others.
