La Cartita --- Huawei designs advanced smartphones, grabbing a significant amount of global market share. In fact, it is the world's second largest maker of smartphones and also one of the three major providers of 4G network infrastructures.
The United States is accusing Huawei of acting as an agent of the Chinese government. The US alleges that the telecommunications equipment maker is rigging its devices with 'backdoors' that allow the Chinese government to listen in on communications.
The massive amounts of data potentially available becomes fuel for the Chinese intelligence engine, providing metadata on the actions, locations and contents of millions of people, many with links to sensitive US installations.
A range of products manufactured by Chinese companies has been banned in the US: drones, cellphones, and now 5G and 4G telecommunications equipment is more heavily scrutinized than just five years ago. It appears that adoption of the technology will rely heavily on Nokia and Ericsson providers.
